It took place on 21 November, in the Multifunctional Hall of the Presidency of the Council of Ministers, in the presence of the Undersecretary to the Prime Minister Antonio Catricalà, the President of the ItaliaCamp Association Pier Luigi Celli, the Honorary President Gianni Letta, the Strategic Committee and the Scientific Committee, the Award Ceremony of the Competition “Your idea for the country”, promoted by the ItaliaCamp Association. Among the 10 winners, selected from 700 ideas presented, there is Remocean , (Remote sensing of ocean waves) the system for monitoring the state of the sea through the analysis of images acquired by nautical radars in X-band.
The innovative methodology, which exploits the advantages of X-band radar technology such as low cost, mobility and ease of installation, is able to estimate in real time and with high precision the length, period, direction and height of the dominant waves, thus allowing to develop a range of applications and services. It can represent, for example, a useful support for safety on board on large ships, mega-yachts, fishing boats, and also for medium-sized pleasure boats; it can be used to increase the safety levels of the extraction platforms in order to deal with extreme weather conditions and anomalous wave phenomena with adequate timeliness. The system, installed on fixed land positions, near ports or in other strategic points, makes it possible to activate the evacuation and safety systems in the event of the risk of anomalous waves or storm surges. Finally, Remocean can also be used to locate the position of men or boats lost at sea.
“Your idea for the country” is a competition created to collect and select the most innovative ideas and concretely implement them to support the growth of our country and offer the community tangible and concrete benefits.
The ItaliaCamp Association, which sees 52 Italian universities and 9 foreign universities as project partners, has been awarded the High Representation Award of the Presidency of the Republic and operates under the patronage of the Presidency of the Council of Ministers.
Remocean has already won the first prize for the southern Italy area of the ‘Talent of ideas’ competition, organized by the Unicredit Group and the Young Entrepreneurs of Confindustria for the enhancement of the best innovative business ideas in Italy and has launched one Spin-off of the CNR.
